License Tab
This tab shows settings for either single-user licenses or license server usage. Use the “License Type” dropdown to switch between these two types of settings.
- License Status - Indicates (in red) if you are using a licensed version of KioWare and if your license is valid.
- License Type - Select the type of KioWare license you are using. Different settings will show for each type of license.
- Single User - Used for small-quantity installations. The license is used on a particular kiosk or computer (see Single User below).
- License Server - Used only if the KioWare License Server has been installed. This allows users to manage licenses on their own, without help from KioWare Support (see License Server Information below).
- System Code - A unique number that identifies your kiosk or computer and cannot be changed.
Single User
When the “License Type” is set to “Single User”, the tab looks like the image above.

Related Terms and Questions
If the answers to your questions are not in this table, visit the KioWare website for frequently asked questions (FAQs).
What is Demo mode? | When you download a trial version of KioWare, it runs in Demo mode because it is not licensed. Every so often, you will see a message (KioWare's nag screen) telling you that you are still in Demo mode (still using the trial version). If you buy a license, you can continue using your downloaded version of KioWare. Just enter your “Company Name” and “License Key” (given to you by KioWare sales staff) and select your “Model” from the dropdown. The “License Status” indicator will then tell you that you are fully licensed. |
Is the KioWare licensing a “one and done” purchase, meaning that once I purchase the license I can run the software forever? | Yes, but you might consider purchasing support for KioWare as well. One large benefit of support is that it lets you upgrade to a new version of KioWare. Without support you will not be able to upgrade. For more details about support for KioWare, please contact KioWare Sales Support via phone (Toll Free USA: 877-843-4790; International: 1-717-843-4790) or our website (www.kioware.com). |
How do I license KioWare? | You need to enter a “License Key” to stop running KioWare in Demo mode (see above). There are two ways you can get a “License Key”.
- Find the “System Code” on the Licensing tab and contact KioWare Support, who can convert your “System Code” into a “License Key”.
- If your kiosk or computer is connected to the Internet, you can also license KioWare over the Internet. Enter the “Transaction Number” and “Authorization Code” that you were given when you purchased your license(s), select a date that the license will expire (max. license length is 6 months), and select the “Get Electronic License” button. Your kiosk or computer will automatically contact our server for a “License Key”.
|
What is resetting a license? | A license will need to be reset whenever your “System Code” changes. This can change when hardware or a network card is changed on your kiosk or computer, when a license is transferred from one kiosk/computer to another, or when a license that you got electronically expires (they only last up to 6 months). To reset a license, email KioWare Support your “Transaction Number”, the kiosk/computer you want to reset the license on, and the reason for resetting a license, or use the KioWare License Server if it is installed (see below). |
What is the KioWare License Server? | The KioWare License Server product allows you to reset your KioWare licenses without having to contact KioWare Support. After entering settings that match your kiosk/computer settings (e.g., password), your kiosk/computer and the License Server can “talk” to each other. The License Server will then know how much time is left before a KioWare license expires. When it does expire, you can easily reset it for further use. The KioWare License Server also has multiple tools to allow “talking” with kiosks, to keep track of kiosk and license activity, to reset licenses or ban kiosks from “talking” with the License Server, and to log warnings and errors. For more details on the KioWare License Server, contact KioWare Support via phone (Toll Free USA: 877-843-4790; International: 1-717-843-4790) or our website (www.kioware.com). |
What is a client certificate? | It identifies a client (computer or machine trying to “talk”) to a remote server. For more details on client certificates, see Kiosk Management Tab, Related Terms and Questions. |
